A - Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
Summary This workforce competence is aimed at everyone at work, whether paid, unpaid, full or part-time.
The scope of the current health and safety legislation covers ‘all persons’ whether employers, employee, self-employed, contractors, etc. Amongst other things the Act seeks to secure the health, safety and welfare of people whilst they work and protect other people against risks to health and safety arising from the activity of people at work.
This workforce competence does not require you to undertake a full risk assessment, it is about you having an appreciation of significant risks in the workplace and knowing how to identify them and deal with them.

Summary This workforce competence covers the competencies needed to identify hazards in the workplace, assess the level of risk resulting from those hazards, make recommendations to control the risk and review the results.
This workforce competence is for people required to, or who have been asked to, carry out a risk assessment in the workplace. They could be an employer, line manager, supervisor, safety representative or employee.
